The Next Best Thing
The late Steve Goodman singing "Elvis Imitators". I bought the album Artistic Hair circa 1986 solely based on hearing Weasel play this cut on WHFS. Steve Goodman immediately became one of my favorite singer-songwriters. The performance in this video must be the same one as on the album. Goodman also wrote Arlo Guthrie's big hit "City of New Orleans".

Wow, I miss that guy. I also miss Weasel and the rest of the guys at WHFS. They said that WRNR would be a sort of heir-apparent, but I dunno...
Anyway, be sure and check out my "Summer of Love" series. I'm pulling out the stuff I saw on TV back in the day when I only had three channels to work with. Two entries so far, and more on the way.
Thanks again for showing Steve. What a songwriter he was!

Looks like the vid got pulled.
Anyway, I saw you post on Dawn Eden's blog, and see that you are a Catholic guitar player. I'm a Catholic bass player with a blog. Let's find a Catholic drummer blog. :)
I like you title as I mostly use a fretless bass, so the question, "Why Fret?" is even more amusing to me.

Scott,
I see you are in Virginia. How close to DC?

Roanoke, which is about 3+ hours away.

Maybe we could just email each other audacity files. ;-)
Actually that sounds kinda of cool. I have a friend in Wisconsin who is a drummer and I was actually going to suggest to him sometime that we do something like that.
